august 2 :: leaf

What: Leaves. On a tree.

Where: On the lawn near Constitution Marina.

Why: I wanted to be clever, taking a photo of a leaf used to extend a table or gold leaf peeling off the gilded State House dome, but clever wasn't in the cards today. This photo was taken in nearly the spot as yesterday's. The sunrise threw some crazy cool-but-golden light this morning. Skies were clear on the horizon, but overcast just above. As soon as it rose, the sun was gone.

Around here, fall leaves get all the attention. But summer leaves don't get so much love, I'd venture to guess. While I was out later this afternoon, still hoping to find a more inspired leaf photo, I stood under a tree and shot this. I like the brightness of it and because it reminds me of how nice it is to sit in the shade of a tree on a summer day.

august 1 :: morning light

What: Geese swimming in the harbor at sunrise

Where: Boston Harbor, near Charlestown

Why: I love sunsets as much as anyone, but in my neighborhood it's the sunrises that are worth seeing. I tend to catch them often since I'm up early to do my yoga practice. This sunrise isn't even anything special, but I remember snapping this picture because I thought that foursome of geese was in a perfect spot.

Sunrise is an obvious subject for the prompt "morning light," I guess, but I'm okay with that.
