pretty & crazy

It could be said that my dog is lovely. We joke that she looks like an old L.L. Bean ad and is pretty enough to be on a tin of treats.

See?

She looks elegant, sure, but don't let a pretty picture fool you. This next photo more accurately captures my dogs personality.

When I'm having a bad day or just need a laugh, this photo always does the trick.

Day 7: Bold Water Entry

A dog (or a person, for that matter) can enter a pool of water either deliberately, by dipping in a toe, then a foot and then maybe an ankle, or boldly - one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready and four to...CANNONBALL!!!!!

This photo captures what dog trainers and handlers call bold water entry

If you've ever watched one of those dog agility competitions on TV, then you've probably seen bold water entry. It happens during the diving dog contest. From a dock, a handler throws a bumper as far as he can into a pool of water. His dog gets a running start, chasing to the bumper, and leaping leaps into a pool of water. The dog is judged by the length of the leap. Google it, if you've never seen it. It's amazing to watch.

National Photo Posting Month :: Day 7

What: An English Springer Spaniel jumping into the lake to fetch a bumper.

When: late August 2015

Where: in Mitchell, Georgia at Craney Hill Kennel

Why: I had the opportunity to watch a professional trainer and handler work with his own dogs on water skills. In other words, I got to watch a bunch of puppies go swimming on a hot summer day. It was a privilege, for sure, and a complete blast.
