Day 24: Mia, today

Remember this girl? She's 6-1/2 years old now. A lot has changed, but she can still work a camera like no other.

National Photo Posting Month :: Day 24

Who: My niece Mia.

When: just before sunset on Saturday, November 21, 2015

Where: at the First Annual Fake Thanksgiving Dinner in Northborough, Massachusetts

Why: She was waiting between takes with Erinn, but wasn't too busy to smile for me.

Day 13: Mia

Digging another one out of the way-back archives for Flashback Friday. This photo of mine appeared on The Pioneer Woman back in 2009. Really.

Photography used be one of the topics covered on Ree's site. One of my favorite recurring features were the "Photography Assignments." Each assignment had a timeline and a theme, like "black and white" or "silly faces" or "coming home." Sharing photos was fun, but even more so was seeing how hundreds of others interpreted a theme. After the assignment time line ended, Ree would select some and post them on her blog.

Who: My niece, Mia.

When: August 2009. She was only a few months old at the time.

Where: Phillipston, Massachusetts.

Why: This was the first photo of mine that another blogger shared on their site and when it happened, I was tickled pink. It's one thing for our friends and family to like your photos, but it's entirely another for a stranger, someone I've never met, to compliment my work. I might process the black-and-white a lot differently now than I did then, but I'm proud of this photo. It will always be one of my very favorites.
